“It’s hard to describe this experience, but it’s simply one of the best things I have ever done.”

— Volunteer Birth Partner

Do you believe that no woman or birthing person should have to birth alone?

Evidence shows that the presence of a birth partner can have significant positive benefits in labour and delivery. Our project is not about “helping”, it is about restoring the village-like presence at pregnancy and beyond that we all deserve, but few have.

The Birth Partner Project relies on a strong cohort of volunteer birth partners. They work in small teams to provide compassionate emotional support and practical guidance to the individuals who use our service as they enter parenthood.

Our volunteers stand alongside women and birthing people as they prepare for birth, in labour and while they adjust to life afterwards. Birth partners are trained and equipped with resources to share, to empower others.

There is a secret in our culture and it is not that birth is painful but that women are strong!

For a full description download the birth partner volunteer role description, check out our FAQs or read about how we work.

We can offer flexible volunteering roles, such a postpartum-only support. Please email us to talk more about these roles.

Full training and a DBS check are essential for all volunteers.

All applicants must be based in or around Cardiff.

We ask all our volunteers to be active on at least one birth team every six months, and to commit to volunteering with us for at least 18 months.

We sometimes recruit volunteers in groups, so you may have to wait a little while after getting in touch, before we are able to offer you the necessary training. Please apply, and we can discuss this with you, according to the timing of your enquiry.
